“Lorraine tutored our daughter during the Spring semester of Spanish 2 (10th grade), twice a week for an hour, from January through June 2026. Lorraine came in highly recommended by a friend whose child she tutored earlier.
Our daughter is a diligent student and had A/B grades in Spanish 1. However, her Spanish 2 teacher did not explain the material well or provide sufficient practice, and she struggled in the class, only barely earning a C in the first semester.
In early January 2026 we started working with Lorraine, who presented the material in very engaging ways and revived our daughter’s interest in learning Spanish. Early on, it was the Super Bowl halftime show headlined by Bad Bunny. They watched the show together, translating what he said and some of his songs. They noticed the cultural iconography, discussed reasons why he included it in the show, and reviewed other cultural representations of Puerto Rico.
She was able to work from our daughter’s school notes alone, quickly identify knowledge gaps, and clearly explain the grammar surrounding the concepts. She helped edit the school notes to make sure they were correct, and they created study guides together so our daughter had her own resources.
Lorraine used different types of materials like worksheets, songs, jokes, and visuals to explain concepts. She incorporated reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities, giving our daughter practice across all four skills.
Lorraine was great communicating with me as the parent. She was transparent with start and stop times, cc’ing me on Zoom link emails, and provided detailed summaries of each session, with suggestions and plans for further sessions.
Our daughter enjoyed working with Lorraine very much and felt increasingly more comfortable and confident in her school class. She was able to ace a few tests and was extremely happy about that!
Overall, she earned a strong B+ in the second semester.
